Mercedes EQC vs Jaguar I-PACE | Jaguar Rancho Mirage
Two Ultimate Luxury Electric SUVs Go Head to Head
So, Which is Better – Mercedes EQC or Jaguar I-PACE?
There’s a reason the Jaguar I-PACE is revered as perhaps the greatest luxury all-electric SUV in the stratosphere. As the winner of World Car of the Year (more than once) it’s known for its sexy design, sportiness and super luxury traits. And it boasts an impressive range of about 290 miles in the real world.
All of that makes it a great candidate for taking on the newer-to-the-market Mercedes EQC to see which is the best premium electric SUV.
Like the I-PACE, the Mercedes EQC comes with electric motors on both axels and both cars come with four wheel drive. The EQC produces 402 horsepower while the I-PACE offers 394 hp. But the Mercedes’ battery back has a lower capacity of 80 KwH than the I-PACE’S 90 kWh battery.
Additionally, the I-Pace has been on the market longer and gone through years of testing and travel. It’s hard to ignore that impressive range of 290 miles on a single charge compared to the EQC’s range of about 248 miles. The EQC can get from zero to 60 in 4.9 seconds while the I-PACE tops that with a 4.5 second zero-to-60, in part because it weighs only 2.2 tons compared to the Mercedes’ 2.5 tons.
Most importantly, the I-PACE is sportier to drive due to that low slung profile among other things. It not only boasts superior performance but it looks great!
Additional performance features included with the Jaguar I-PACE include:
- Zero to 80 percent charge in just 85 minutes
- All-wheel drive
- Active air suspension
- Configurable dynamics
- Adaptive dynamics
The interior of the Jaguar I-PACE is dressed to impress thanks to a beautiful floating center console, performance seating and white interior lighting. You also get cabin pre-conditioning, cabin air ionization and acoustic laminated glass on the front windows.
The Jaguar I-PACE has a larger instrument display than the Mercedes, measuring 12.3-in compared to the 10.25-inch display in the EQC.
Inside the I-PACE there’s also a 10-in. touchscreen and a lower 5.5-in. touchscreen with dynamic dials. Other technology features that are included are: heads up display, Connect Pro and in-cabin Wi-Fi compatibility and more.
Both cars offer similar safety features but the Jaguar I-PACE includes a number of standard features that are only available as upgrades on the Mercedes. Those include Lane Keep Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control with Steering Assist. Additional I-PACE safety features include: adaptive speed limiter and traffic sign recognition; cruise control and driver condition monitor and rear camera.
The verdict: Of the two, the Jaguar is the more impressive car.
Not only does it have a more exciting and attractive interior but it’s great to drive.
Not convinced? Here’s Jaguar’s rundown of some other premium features included with the I-PACE
Exterior design allows the car to cut cleanly through the air for optimized range and speed.
The bold grille curves inward—reducing drag by channeling air through the hood scoop and out, where it passes over a roofline that is curved for maximum efficiency.
Squared-off corners encourage air to detach cleanly from the vehicle, minimizing the pressure differences that cause drag.
Ensuring that airflow passes smoothly around the entire exterior, deployable door handles sit flush with the car’s sides.
Giving a distinctive on-road presence, the slim futuristic LED headlights of the I-PACE feature the signature double “J” blade graphic, while the panoramic glass roof offers an exceptionally smooth look.
The I‑PACE comes standard with a panoramic glass roof. The tinted and infrared-absorbing glass prevents strong sunlight, UV light and heat from entering the cabin.
Make the I-PACE truly yours by choosing from a range of five available wheels. Available in sizes from 20” to 22”. Wheel options include the 20″ Style 5070, 5 split-spoke, with Polished Technical Grey finish.
Available in a range of materials and colors, the expertly designed sports seats in the I-PACE hold and support through every turn. They feature optional heating and cooling for greater comfort.
Your Quiet Bubble
The cabin is a sanctuary from the outside world. For outstanding refinement, sophisticated motor encapsulation reduces sound, while the sharp exterior design minimizes wind noise.
